The Isle of Man is home to a host of fantastic museums and heritage attractions. Some are government-owned and run but there are many more, staffed and maintained by dedicated, passionate volunteers. ManxMuseums.com aims to bring all these amazing independent ventures together in one place, making them easy to find for the enjoyment of all.
As part of our day-to-day business at Orvis and 3 Legs Internet, we’ve been fortunate enough to become closely involved with some of the independent museums and heritage attractions on the Island. Chatting in the office one day, over a nice cup of tea (don't all good ideas start with a cuppa?), we agreed how rewarding it feels to be a part – albeit a small one – of these ventures. As we talked, we began to wonder whether there was any sort of website linking all the otherwise unconnected sites and, if not, whether we could do something about it.
A quick Google search revealed that there simply wasn’t, whilst further investigation revealed that the ideal domain name for our embryonic project was available. We decided to base the criteria for inclusion on the site roughly around the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of a museum: "An institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of objects of lasting interest or value...also a place where objects are exhibited". We knew that the brilliant web designers at 3Legs Internet would be able to set up a great-looking, simple but informative site which would bring all these organisations together, allowing them each an equal bite of the cake and increasing their visibility to visitors all over the Web. So we started work on putting together the site you're looking at now. We hope you enjoy using it, and we hope you enjoy visiting the excellent, quirky, and fascinating places we're sharing.

ManxMuseums.com is a not-for-profit site created, designed and hosted by Orvis and 3 Legs Internet as a way of “giving something back” to our home Island.
